Editorial policy

The rules every article follows.

Sources and verification

  • We prefer primary sources: official announcements, documentation, papers, filings and regulator documents.
  • Original sources are cited and linked, with the date we accessed them.
  • Quotes, figures, benchmarks and dates must appear in a cited source. If we cannot confirm something, we leave it out or say it is unconfirmed.
  • We separate what is documented from what we interpret, and we say which is which.
  • No article presents an unverified claim as fact.

Editorial approval

No article is published without an approval step. An editor account must approve it, the approval is recorded, and an article cannot approve itself into publication. If an article is edited after approval, it needs approving again before it can go live.

Corrections

If we get something wrong we fix it and say so. Corrections are marked on the article with the date and what changed, and the article's updated date is changed. We do not quietly rewrite history. To report an error, contact us.

Opinion and analysis

Analysis and opinion are labelled as such. We say when a statement is our interpretation instead of a documented fact.

Images

Illustrations on this site are credited beneath the image. Where an illustration is computer-generated, the credit says so.

Independence and conflicts

Coverage is not for sale. If a story involves a relationship that could reasonably be seen as a conflict of interest, the article will disclose it.
